British Skeleton has enjoyed outstanding and sustained successes during the past four years culminating with an Olympic Gold Medal at Whistler in 2010. This was a truly team effort by athletes, coaches and staff. The delivery of the programmes success was managed by Andi Schmid who has held the position of not only Performance Director but led much of the programmes technical functions.
The Committee would like to thank Andi for his commitment and leadership to the programme in achieving these results especially at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
As we enter the new Olympic cycle Andi asked that he to be allowed to focus his energies on the management of the programmes technical development as well as undertaking squad coaching and continuing to represent British Skeleton on the FIBT Technical Committees where he has much experience. As a result of this re-assessment the committee have reviewed the future structure of our athlete support.
Accordingly, the Committee has agreed that Andi Schmid will assume the role of Head of Technical Development, as well as undertaking squad coaching and assist the Association in the field of international liaison.
British Skeleton are now recruiting for a new Performance Director to lead the delivery of performance programme for the Association for the next Olympiad and beyond, with interviews being held on the 23rd May 2011.
Andi will continue in his PD and Technical roles until the new appointment is in post, hopefully by 1st September 2011. He will be working closely with Kirstie Moore until the new PD is in place to ensure continuity and that key policy documents and performance strategies are fully implemented.
Kirstie and Andi have just finished the co-ordination & preparation the Associations 2010-2014 Performance Strategy which the committee have now approved which is a continued evolution of principles and values that underpinned our programmes successful development.
